Fluocinonide is a fluorine-containing glucocorticoid. 0.01% of external preparations are moderately effective, and 0.025% of external preparations are potent glucocorticoids. It can contract dermal capillaries, inhibit the proliferation or regeneration of epidermal cells, inhibit connective tissue proliferation, stabilize intracellular lysosomal membranes, reduce inflammatory exudation, and inhibit the formation and release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators. It is anti-allergic Sex, anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects.
Topical corticosteroids share anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive actions. The mechanism of anti-inflammatory activity of the topical coricosteroids is unclear. Various laboratory method, including vasoconstrictor assays, are used to compare and predict potencies and clinical efficacies of the topical corticosteroids. There is some evidence to suggest that a recognize correlation exists between vasoconstrictor potency and the therapeutic efficacy in man.
