Introduction | Glucuronolactone is a naturally occurring chemical produced by the metabolism of glucose in the human liver. It is an important structural component of nearly all connective tissues. Glucuronolactone is also found in many plant gums. Glucuronolactone is rapidly absorbed and metabolised into non-toxic metabolites such as xylulose. In addition, humans may be able to use glucuronolactone as a precursor for ascorbic acid synthesis. According to "The Merck Index", it is also used as a detoxicant. Glucuronolactone is a popular ingredient in energy drinks with claims that it detoxifies the body. Although levels of glucuronolactone in energy drinks can far exceed those found in the rest of the diet, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded that exposure to glucuronolactone from regular consumption of energy drinks is not a safety concern (No Observed Adverse Effect Level of glucuronolactone = 1,000mg/kg/day). A fatality was reported after intake of 1420 ml of an energy drink. |
.Glucuronolactone is metabolized to glucaric acid, xylitol, and L-xylulose, and humans may also be able to use glucuronolactone as a precursor for ascorbic acid synthesis
.it is also used as a detoxicant The liver uses glucose to create glucuronolactone, which inhibits the enzyme B-glucuronidase (metabolizes glucuronides), which should cause blood-glucuronide levels to rise. Glucuronides combine with toxic substances, such as mor and depot medroxyprogesterone acetate, by converting them to water-soluble glucuronide-conjugates which are excreted in the urine.
.Glucuronolactone is a popular ingredient in energy drinks with claims that it detoxifies the body.
.Glucurolactone can be combined with the liver and intestinal toxicants to form a non-toxic glucuronic acid conjugate, so it has liver and detoxification effects.
.It is clinically used for the treatment of hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice, rheumatism, etc. It is also used as an antidote to food and drug poisoning.
.The main role is to enhance the liver's detoxification function, restore or improve brain function, regulate immune function
